Goal #74: Collect 50 postcards for every state (25/50) Part 3

This is Part 3, the last part, to my latest and greatest postcard update! Sadly, since it's been quite sometime since I've paid attention to this puppy. I have a few blank cards that I don't even remember who gave them to me. Which pretty much stinks! I want to give credit where credit is due, but for some of these I'm at a loss of ideas. If you see this, and you know you sent one of these, please comment!!

1. Washington | Sender: my guess is I got this one.

I travelled to Seattle for work a few times last year, and I know I snagged a few cards for my sister. Sooo, I'm thinking I snagged this one for myself. But who knows!

2. Texas | Sender: possssibly my sister Kristin.
Kristin has been good to me, snagging me some cards while on her travels with her man. There is quite a possibility she snagged this one for me. Hmmm....

3. Mississippi | Sender: also thinking this is from Kristin.
It's just a hunch, but I'm sure she'll confirm yay or nay soon. Whoever these are from, thanks a bunch!

4. Pennsylvania | Sender: Lauren
I know who this one's from, she just didn't write anything fun on the back! Lauren is my sister Alexis' bestie, and while on her travels to the East coast, she snagged quite a few cards for the both of us! Thanks hun!

5. Washington DC | Sender: Laureeen
Here's another from little Lauren. I call her little, because she's just as small as my sister height wise, and she's a thin little thing too! By thin, I also mean fit. She's currently studying to become a personal trainer. Let me know if you're in the OC area, I'll hook you up!

6. New York | Sender: Lauren
While I do have a few NY cards, one from Brooklyn I do not. Thanks for this pretty black and white. I love it! *hugs and kisses*

Michele is a best friend to one of my dearest friends, Shans. We've never met, but I love her already! Any friend of Shans, is a friend of mine. She's been living it up in NYC for quite some time now, but she finally sent me an awesome card over Thanksgiving. I met Sarah at CSUF in our advertising classes, and she's one of the sweetest! Miss you chica! But I'm happy you've made NYC your stomping grounds, you lucky B!

This little baby was such a surprise! Since I was so busy with work and not really focusing on this goal, it put a HUGE smile on my face to receive this one. Thank you Heather for sharing a card with me and helping me cross this goal off my list. You're fabulous!

DZP Resolutions: 7 Things X 2012

Day Zero Project has a new approach for your 2012 resolutions, 7 Things X 2012. They give you seven prompts to get you thinking, the next step is to define your goals and write them down.

Here are my seven ambitions for 2012:

Learn how to keep a plant alive
Start saving
Stop drinking
Take a vacation to the snow
Find a happy-medium
Try paddle boarding
Be more proactive

The fact that I have a brown thumb instead of a green thumb is really starting to annoy me. I want to try and get greener - if that's possible...........................Then I want to start saving because I've never been good at it. I always live in the present and although I want to keep it that way, I want to start becoming more aware of what the future may bring...............Which may be a little easier by not drinking as much. I don't plan to go without, maybe a glass of wine or champagne, try a few new beers to help my DZP goal, but no more excess................. And for once and for all I'd like to go to the damn snow. 2012 better bring me some snow time!................. All of this is in line with my search for a happy-medium in my day-to-day life. Finding a balance is important spiritually, financially and emotionally.. and its something I really need in my life right now..............................That balance of course will help me with my paddle boarding. I know I won't be able to make it apart of my routine, but I'd like to try it out a few times this 2012........... So cheers to a proactive attitude, inside and out. I'm very proactive when it comes to certain things, but I want that to permeate throughout my friendships - just because you haven't called me, doesn't mean I can't call you...... my family - I want to be more in-tuned with their lives and create better memories...... spiritually - I need to find a higher mind to be at peace...... myself - I need to take more time for myself and do things for me...... I truly believe if I constantly remind myself of these ambitions every day, 2012 will be a fruitful year for me.

I encourage you to try this approach to your 2012 resolutions.

Goal #19: Host a "cookie bake-off"

That's right people! I managed to get 10 seriously awesome friends in my very small kitchen / dining room for some cookie-making-fun! After attending a few of these fun parties with some past coworkers, with a snap! this goal made its way onto my list. So happy we finally were able to do it *satisfied smile*

I can't be taken seriously at a time like this.

All girls plus one awesome boy who brought the coolest Star Wars cookie cutters.

"And the best part is, I'm the only boy!" - Jay

The best part: every single one of my friends (with the exception of Madalyn and myself) had never been to a cookie bake-off, and they all LOVED it! I'm seeing many cookie-baking-frosting-fun in our future.

Goal #51: Visit the Griffith Observatory

This is a place I've been dieing to go to for so long, and I finally just made it happen! It was an adventure all in itself, let me recap in both photo format and via the written word:

There was the laughter-filled car ride to L.A.,

the hike up the aaamazingly steep hill (when we totally could have parked at the top),

finally seeing the Hollywood sign after all. these. years.,

checking out the impressively large estates surrounding the area,

watching the huge foucault pendulum,

failing at finding my zodiac sign on the ceiling,

watching the tesla coil and taking the awesome blog-worthy "LA" photo,

flying down the cosmic connection in all it's glory,

snagging a perfectly adorable charm to wear on my necklace,

then there was a close call with ginormous burritos,

and I will never forget the hunt for coconuts.

So happy my first visit, definitely not my last, to the Griffith Observatory was so much fun!

My Shannybear and I setup a phone-date earlier today in three swift messages. A pretty satisfying exchange with so few words. It was later followed up with this:
Btw as my reminder to call you I have written “Love” in cursive on my finger! It’s pretty adorable.

To understand the significance of this, please see here.

The words alone made my heart warm reminding me how much I love this gurl and our friendship. But the evidence in photo format was the cherry on top, the frosting to your sugar cookie, the honey to my pot, the jelly to your peanut butter.

I can't wait to talk to my dear friend later today.

This puppy has been done for quite some time now, I just haven't had a chance to update you!

Who: me, and of course the tattoo artist Todd from Aces High in Fullerton.

What: a simple, honest dedication to what is love, in the most dainty, feminine writing possible.

When: july - yes, I know, too long to wait before sharing.

Where: as you can tell, on my finger - and no! it is not on my middle finger - although I understand how hilarious that may have been. It's on my ring finger, right hand.

Why: it symbolizes the past 8 years of my life and dedication to love and my relationship, as well as my hope for continued love in my life.

It hurt like mad. So if you're considering a finger tat, brace yourself for the pain. I've been told it's similar to that of the foot, but given the limited space, it's much quicker to endure. The sketch and setup took longer than the actual tattoo!

This only made me continue to lust after my next one! *sighh*

This isn't just any pumpkin recipe by the way, it's a creative (healthier) alternative to pumpkin pie! Hey Taryn! Each bar clocks in at approximately 50 calories, so you have the second one guilt-free my dear! *wink-wink*

I love pumpkin pie, so I'm really looking forward to trying this one out!

Pumpkin Bars

Ingredients:
- 1/2 c. spelt flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 5 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. canned pumpkin (or cooked, pureed pumpkin)
- 2 tbsp. nondairy milk
- 2 tbsp. coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine dry ingredients, then add in wet ingredients.
- Spread mixture into an oiled 8x8 pan and cook for 20 minutes.
- Cream cheese frosting optional.

Who doesn't like a good compliment here and there? I know I sure do! Whether you're the giver or receiver of a compliment, you both really win. It feels good to receive them, and being able to make someone feel good - well, it just feels good! And for both my selfish and attempts to "do good" reasons, this is something I've been extending more often as of late.

For instance, the other morning while standing in line at the coffee shop I was admiring the girl's scarf in front of me. There I was thinking to myself, that is a gorgeous scarf! I wonder where she got it? Is it new or an old favorite? hmmmm...

Well why the hell not just say it aloud?! What do I have to loose right?

So I tapped her shoulder and complimented her *seriously* gorgeous scarf.

What did I loose? Nothing.

What did I gain? A good conversation about the scarf she bought on her post-college trip to NYC, how she was sooo excited to bust it out this morning! and how I just made her morning!

Both her and I walked out with smiles on our faces.

Uhhh two words for you: win-win!

So the next time you're thinking to yourself, nice scarf!, cute shoes!, ohhhh I love that top!, or that's exactly how I want my hair! - I encourage you to say it aloud!

I Miss my Seester!

It sounds weird because (a.) we live down the street from one another, and (b.) we generally communicate by some means or another at least once a day. But the thing is (1.) we went a few days without seeing each other, then (2.) I was in a whole other state for like 4 days, (3.) little miss sister hasn't been online nearly all week, and (4.) she all of a sudden is uber sick and since (5.) I don't want to get sick, I still won't see her for a few more days(!!!!!!!!)

So when you go from TONS of seeing someone, to NONE! I guess it isn't so weird that I miss her face right now right? Right.

Goal #99: Complete five 5k races (4/5)

My sister and I have been teaming up to knock this goal down! Here is a snapshot of the last three races we participated in:

Walk for Wishes

To start our Sister-Saturday off with a bang! We hit up the Walk for Wishes at the Irvine Great Park. It was technically a 2 mile track, but we made sure to make up for the rest of the 5k during our day - so it counts in our book! We were some of the very first people to even cross the "water line"...

And my Easy Tones and I were ready for a great walk!

Too bad my sister didn't have an entirely great time... a little bee decided to pay her a visit within the first 5 minutes! But she was such a trooper and waited the length of the walk to get some medical attention, and a cute fire fighter hat:

Great Strides

Say hello to another Sister-Saturday which we again, started off with a fabulous 5k in Yorba Linda. This walk was especially close to my sister. Her master teacher has children with cystic fibrosis and is very involved with finding a cure. So of course, we walked in representation of Team Montelone and we had a great time, for a great cause!

Can't you tell?! Last year just four pretty ladies headed to Patchwork in Long Beach for the first time, and this year we've started a tradition and expanded to six adorable ladies. While it was hot-cold-hot-cold, we had a great time! There were wayy more vendors than last year, and with the fresh sky after the rain - hands down a gorgeous day.

And in true tradition, we all took a FREE photo by Martin Franco Vielma. I genuinely loved spending time with each of these ladies you see here (clockwise from top left): Shannybear, Momma Shannon, Kristyn with a Y I'm gonna start calling her K-Dub, ME!, Shanna Dear, Sister Alex.

I'm so excited that I finally got this goal goin', you have no idea. My mom bought me this windowsill kit for my birthday! - Back in February!... and I barely planted them this weekend. I followed all the instructions to a t. So there is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't have some fresh herbs coming my way.

I'm looking forward to fresh parsley, oregano, chives and cilantro!
